Training matrix
A training matrix is the cross-tabulation of workers (rows) against required training and competencies (columns), with completion dates, expiry dates and gap status in the cells. It is the operational evidence behind "trained and assessed".
Legal context
The training matrix is the central artefact of competency management. It maps every role to its required training, every worker to their actual training, and every required competency to its expiry. Cells are populated from training records, licence records and competency assessments. Gaps (worker missing a required competency, or competency expiring within the alert window) are surfaced for action. The matrix is the source of truth for "is this worker authorised to do this task today?" โ a question that recurs on every site sign-on, every JSA competency check, and every pre-start of high-risk plant. ISO 45001 Cl 7.2 (competence) and Cl 7.3 (awareness) anticipate the matrix as the documented evidence behind both clauses.
